Thanks for reading this :)
First off yes I have the latest versions of both iTunes and the iPod software freshly downloaded from apple. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling them both.
So my g/f picked up a Shuffle for me for Christmas. After installing all of the latest versions of iTunes/iPod software I found my music and hit Autofill and everything was fine and dandy.
However as soon as I did that once everytime I try to delete a file or autofill again it says "The device can not be read from or written to" or something very similar. The iPod also disappears from My Computer.
I attempted resetting the shuffle with the method on the Apple support site. This didn't work. I tried to reset it to defaults with the iPod software. It says "Cannot mount the iPod".
So I reboot my computer, and uninstall iTunes. I plug in the iPod and it lets me restart to defaults iwith the iPod software. The iPod appears in My Computer just fine.
I tried reinstalling iTunes. I go into iTunes and again, it autofills just fine.
Then I check My Computer. The iPod is gone again. I open iTunes back up, when I try to add or delete a file or Autofill again it says "The device cannot be read from or written to"
I download the Anapod explorer trial. It also cannot see the iPod, then I uninstall iTunes again and reset the iPod yet again.
After uninstalling iTunes and rebooting Anapod sees the iPod just fine and I can add and modify music just fine. The iPod never disappears from My Computer no matter what I do in Anapod or how many times I add or remove files.
So, once again, I install iTunes. I open it up and sure enough, after using it once the iPod disappears from My Computer and everything.
I went to a friends house and test it, loaded up music from his computer just fine.
All of my other USB devices work just fine but to be safe I completely uninstalled all of my USB devices and reinstalled. I also unplugged all of my other devices besides my mouse.
So I have tried:
1)Downloading the latest versions of iTunes and iPod software(Even though they are the same version as on the CD). I went so far as to search my HD and Registry for anything related and delete it.
2)Uninstalling all USB devices and USB drivers.
3)Resetting the shuffle with the method mentioned on the site.
4)Fooling around with options in iTunes. No help.
5)I have confirmed the iPod works just fine on other computers.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks :)
