Transferring library between mac and pc

I have a 3G iPod formatted for a Mac which currently holds my library. I now have a 5G and I want to run it off a PC. I'd like to transfer all my music and playlists from my Mac formatted 3G to the PC and then the 5G. Is this possible, and if so, how?
