View Full Version : Whats your essential Ipod software?
Hello :)
Just got a 5G Video Ipod and wondered what everyone here would recommend as their top software?
I doubt Ill be using the ipod for videos and photos - strictly music.
The only software Ive come across which I thought would be useful is that Podutil one, which apparently lets you copy files from your ipod back to your computer. Is there an option on this to make a full backup of every song on your ipod or do you have to select certain albums/songs/compilations?
Any other useful software that everyone uses?
Thanks
Nish

You actually do not need this. You can just enable your iPod for disk use and can drag and drop all your song files to your computer without any third party software fairly easily. There is a good tutorial on this on the main home page.

I use and Migo (http://www.migosoftware.com/) CopyPod (http://www.copypod.net/) religiously on my Ipod. I have a 60gb Photo.
CopyPod allows you to copy songs, playlists, etc from one ipod back down to a PC in an itunes like interface and allows you to choose which folder to dump them in without having to search through folders on the ipod itself
Migo allows you to essentially "synchronize" documents, pictures, Outlook, etc from one PC onto the ipod, then you can take your ipod to another computer, launch Migo, and you get a replica of the PC you synched from. This is especially useful if you are a student, or work from more than one PC (i typically sync at my apartment, then I can access my necessary documents when I go back to my house or to a friends place)
Pretty cool software - they had a deal when I bought it to get it for 30.00 dollars. Not sure what it is now
There are a ton of other programs as well. I would definitely recommend turning on disk mode so you can drag and drop files to it as it acts like an external hard drive
Good luck and enjoy your new ipod

There are a number of programs (anapod, ephpod, & yamipod come to mind, there's also WinAmp plugin, and J.River MediaCenter can be used...) that will let you get music on your iPod but none equal the feature set of iTunes. I would suggest you get over your hatred of iTunes or find another brand of DAPs for your next purchase.
Here's all the software I use *related* to my iPod:
Exact Audio Copy - best CD ripping program in existence
LAME enconder - best mp3 encoder in existence
FLAC.exe - opens source lossless encoder for archiving CDs instead of re-ripping them whenver there's a better version of LAME or whatever.
mp3gain - normalise volume of all my mp3s
Tag&Rename - best tagging software in my experience
mp3DirectCut - good mp3 editor for splitting or joining
dBpoweramp - great format converter
Tunebite - let's me re-record Yahoo WMA tracks so I can listen to them on my iPod
mp3BookResizer - good for resizing audiobooks from any number of files into any other number of files
But for the iPod itself: iTunes, and that's it. Nothing else will manage your iPod as well it can.
