When I connect my iPod to my Dell laptop, it will always say "Do Not Disconnect" If I try to eject, it says "files are in use by another application". If I exit iTunes, it continues to say "Do Not Disconnect" and if I try to shutdown the laptop it hangs and I have to hold the power button down to get the laptop to shut off. A few seconds after my laptop shuts off, the iPod returns to the menu. I even tried stopping the iPod processes in Task Manager (ipodservices.exe and iTunes still were there although I had closed iTunes!) and tried to use the safely remove hardware to see if it would allow me to disconnect or shutdown Windows but to no avail. Also, Windows XP will not start with the iPod connected. Anyone have a solution?

Ive had the problem once or twice, and I just disconnect the ipod. I really don't like to do it, though, because Im afraid of wiping out the ipod database.

When this happens, try going to windows explorer and right click on the ipod drive to disconnect it. iTunes should now be able to let go of it correctly.
