I too my really old Ipod, 5GB to the mac store and she sayed she fixed it and gave it the new software and that it should work.... The nght I got hom I pluged it in and tried to work it but it said it was low batteries. So, I left it on overnight, but right now, I just checked it and it wont even turn on... How do you reboot it or whatever.. I've never had poblems before so I don't know this stuff...

If your iPod is plugged in, then this is normal - it means that you have to unmount it either by ejecting it in iTunes or dragging it to the Trash in the Finder.
