iPod video not being recognized (windows laptop)

i just got my ipod vid for x-mas. i plugged it in to my laptop and everything was working fine. i put all the media on with no problem. i left for a while then came back later to try and put a few more songs on and i kept getting the message "USB device not recognized". i tried plugging it into my desktop and it works fine. what could the problem be?

nevermind. i resolved the problem by uninstalling then reinstalling the usb port i was plugging the ipod into. this method took two tries to work. most likely i did something wrong the first time.
