I've tried everything, it says "Do not disconnect" so that means it's in disk mode right? The ipod restore service either returns an "ipod service error" error or a "can't mount ipod" error. Help me out...

I forced it into disk mode by holding play and select at startup but i still get the "can't mount ipod" error when i try to use the updater program. Help me out, i can't afford to get it serviced.

Come on guys, i posted this ages ago, i'd be very grateful if anyone could give me a solution.

P.S. this isn't something i can fix by reading the countless on line FAQs, even when in disk mode, i can't format my ipod, please help me out.

I just got a nano for christmas and I am experiencing the DO NOT DISCONNECT situation. Is this normal? Should I return the unit?

For god sakes, not to sound rude or ungrateful, but i eventually managed to fix this myself...

Read your getting started manual BuffetLife, do not disconnect if perfectly normal, it just means that if you DO disconnect, the link between your ipod and computer will be broken prematurely. This can have undesired effects such as corruption on software on your nano, forcing you to restore it to factory settings.

If i managed to fix this by playing guessing games, then surely some input from someone a bit more, ipod experienced definitely could have saved me the two sleepless nights i went through.
