If you're hard up for money then just endure the Apple earbuds - the sound is pretty good, they're just awkward/uncomfortable to wear for some.

For that kind of money the koss Ksc-50's are the only way to go. They do me fine, you can use the buds when you don't want to make any noise.

I second that. I got a pair yesterday (clip ons) for 20 bucks at CompUSA and they sound great. The bass is amazing and very clear for the price.

Well, im kindda a Sennheiser guy, so i think you denfently should go for the mx400/500 earbuds. These are PHAT earbuds for the price <$15.
Well, I havnt heard the ksc-50's, but i have heard a lot of good 'bout them. It's hard to get koss here in EU.

Save the $20 towards better phones. Just use the stock buds. They're decent.
