Hi, this is my first post to this forum. I've searched thru a bit to see if i could find information on this topic and haven't found it. If it is already here somewhere i appologize for the dupe post.

Anyway, my question is: I know you can change the video category of media on the ipod/itunes between "movies" and "music videos" but i can't figure out a way to change it to "TV Shows" or other categories. I've converted several episodes of some tv shows and would like to organize them properly, any ideas?

Thanks guys!

There is no such option.

EDIT: Just noticed AtomicParsley is for MacOS X and Linux (on PowerPC) only, for now. Guess I'll have to do a quick release-worthy tool one of these days when I get the time.

Original message:

There is such an option, but not officially...

There's a great little tool called AtomicParsley, which allows you to modify and create iTunes metadata atoms in your file, one of which is called "stik", and holds the media type of a video file. This basically allows you to turn your own files into "TV Show" and make them recognized as such on the iPod.

I'm not allowed to post URLs, since I'm not an "established member", apparently, but just google for AtomicParsley. ;)

It also allows you to set the season/episode number/description etc. info. Do a bit of reading, and it should be easy to use.

I myself haven't used it (since I'm using my own homemade tool that I never got to release before AtomicParsley entered the scene), but it's supposed to (and I'm sure it does) work very well.

Hmm, how bout for now you can just try and put your tv shows in your 'music video' category :). Since 'music video' has a sub category, and 'movies' doesnt!

So if you have family guy, it will be like this:
Family guy>Ep 1 blah blah
Ep 2 blahhhh
Ep 3 lalala
Ep 4 woooo
etc

Yea, thats what ive started doing... seems like the best fix for the time being. Music Videos category is now TV shows2 for me now... too bad i cant rename it.

MurdockJr, replace the (dot) with a period and paste this address into your browser:
s13.yousendit(dot)com/d.aspx?id=2SAPMVHREZVJ23GZH0QVM7RM04

It's a zip file with five 1-second videos, tagged as the first five episodes of Scrubs.

When you add these to your iTunes library, iTunes will recognize them as TV shows. You can then delete the files (so a "!" shows up next to them).

When you choose "Get Info", iTunes will say it can't find the original file, and will ask if you'd like to locate it. Click yes, but browse to the actual episodes on your computer. I think iTunes will retain the TV show information.

If this works we could experiment with more episodes.
