Hello. First post.

Every time I put my new 20gb iPod in the dock, Windows XP recognizes it as a new device, and gives an error saying "An error occured during the installation of the device. The specified service does not exist as an installed service."

What does that mean???

However, everything works fine! It syncs perfectly with iTunes, and it mounts as a removable storage drive that I can access through Windows Explorer. No errors are given when unmounting the device. So this issue is really more of an inconvenience, that is having to go through the installation junk every time I want to charge my iPod, but I'd really like to get it resolved.

Thanks in advance to anyone that might be able to help.

Windows tends to get a bit funny about that kinda stuff sometimes.. Try uninstalling the ipod software from the CD (not iTunes.. you can leave that and it should be alright) and reinstalling it.

When it asks to install MMJB.. dont' forget to skip it..

Also, what I'd suggest is uninstalling the iPod in Device Manager. If you're using firewire, uninstall the firewire card in Device Manager as well. Reboot, let Windows reinstall drivers.

See what happens.

None of these things worked, unfortunately. I guess it's something I can live with, or maybe I'll try calling Apple sometime. I'll make a post if I ever fix it.

When you set up your iPod, did you use the administrator account on the machine?
