Just bought a brand new 20gb iPod from Best Buy yesterday evening. Got it home and was purely amazed at the packaging. Now I'm wishing they had put as much time and energy into the package as they had the iPod itself.
Took everything outta the box, unwrapped it all, and noticed an Apple logo on the screen. Plugged it into the brand new Belkin firewire card i bought with it and got no response from the computer or iPod. Pop in the CD, go through the install up to the part about configuring the iPod. Click on OK, nothing happened. Tryed a few more times, gave up and installed the rest of the software. Grabbed the instructions and see that i might need to charge it first (duh...). Plug it in and head off to work. Roughly 9 hours later i get home, Apple logo remains on the screen. Try hittin a button to wake it up and get nothing. Drop it back in the dock and get nothing from the pc or iPod still. Try installing the software again, same thing at the point where it wants to configure it, window pops up telling me to plug the iPod into the computer so it can configure, OK to continue, Cancel to skip this step. Few choice words later I begin my search of the net. Much info was aquired but nothing will get it to wake up, just sits there lookin at me with it's Apple logo. Tryed restarting it countless times, both plugged into the PC and not plugged in. Tryed lookin for it as a drive, no dice. Tryed the restart and force firewire, nope.
Windows XP sees the firewire card exactly as Belkin says it should. Rest of the software installed fine. the iPod Manager wont see it, device manager wont see it, My Computer wont see it, MMJB wont even see it. i doubt it sees itself. when i do push a button on it, as if i wanted to turn it on like the user guide says, i can feel it spin up, but i see no change in the screen. i held down the menu and play/pause button to restart it, i can feel it spinning but the screen doesnt change one bit. i've tryed plugging it straight into the firewire card instead of using the dock, same thing. got no response from it last night when i went to charge it, but i have read that may be caused by the battery being very depleated. got nothing when i plugged it back in this morning either.
please, please, help me wake my iPod up, i'm truely stumped at this point.
...and yes, i have made sure the hold wasnt on.
