Ok, I'm totally broke, but I got a refurb 10gig/3rd gen, Mac platform Ipod. I don't have a firewire card yet, someone gave me the new usb/firewire cable from apple, so I will use that for now.

I am using Windows XP-SP1, so I will have to format it for Windows.

Question: will I be able to plug this in to my pc via USB2.0 and convert it to a winipod? Has anyone done this? Will it recognize my pc? Am I asking a question that has been asked a million times already?

Thanks for your patience!;)

Just run the software updater. It's quite simple.

ok. thanks..

I was just confused when I read instructions for formatting a mac ipod to a winipod and it stated to plug into a firewire card. I thought that meant I had to use a firewire connection for the initial format to windows platform.

Thanks! I'm glad to finally be in "the club"!

ONE thing though, I just got my Ipod today, its a refurb, and its not to scratched up on the back at all, I think some polish will make it look practically new, but there are some scratches on the screen..it saddens me to see them(YES, I am one if "those people"). But they aren't that bad..mostly noticable in the sun. I have some scratch remover I bought for my car..wonder if that will help.

I'll keep searching on the forum for some of the tips suggested by other members.
