I know, I know, your Ipod's software didn't work on your Windows 98 system and you became quite nervous. First of all, you, spending well over $150 on anything was a giant step, and now you can't use it...

Well wrong answer kids...thats why I'm here. I've researched several products that work with a Win 98 platform and work well.

Alright...so you don't want to spend anymore money or use mac opener for Ephpod, so I'll start off with some freebies, or for the most part.

First, I came across a file named vpod. Simple drag and drop technique available for download here. (http://www.vonnieda.org/download.jsp;jsessionid=PLHLIPCNPBJA?name=/vPod/vPod-0.03.exe)
I had problems getting this hooked up to the ipod, but try it anyway. I reccomend also downloading a media/mp3 tagger to tag your mp3s.

Moving right along. Next on the list is Anapod. As far as I'm concerned the best free product out there. Another easy drag and drop deal here. This program offers its own built in media tagger when uploading songs. This program is available for download here. (http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/trial/anapod_830_tr.exe)

Finally, the queen mother of all Ipod products with windows...Xplay. This is similar to Anapod, but isnt free. This is also the drag and drop type of software. The trial version is available for download here. (http://www.mediafour.com/downloads/xptrial/xptrialreq.asp)

If you have any questions about the above products or any others ask. I know a great deal about Ipod troubleshooting so if you need help drop me a line. I hope this helped.

Er, there is an entire sticky (http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6581) in the Windows>General board that tells you how to get your iPod to work w/98. All the 3rd Party apps (MC9, MMJB, Xplay, ephpod and the ones you mentioned) support Win98, it's just iTunes that doesn't.

And, the new 2.1 Updater doesn't support 98. But if you have the 2.0.1 Updater, it'll work no problem (if you follow the instructions outlined in the sticky.

Not sure there's news here 10gigpig. But welcome to the 'lounge. :D

As I see it, the programs I listed above were the easiest programs to work with. With these programs, the wini updater does not need to be installed and they set up your ipod's drivers for you. Music Match Jukebox doesnt work unless you have a certain OS with certain Ipods, therefore drop and drag programs are the easiest to use for first time users.
