Hi there,
I've recently brought a 10gig G2 iPod from Ebay (Still waiting for it too arrive) and I've been reading various articiles online and I'm a little concerned about something called: Firewire and another cable called USB.
I apparently need a Firewire card for my Ipod to work, but I don't have a firewire port and really can't afford to buy a card. Are there any alternatives or information that anyone could provide me with??. I'm not entirely sure if Im making any sense but if someone understands PLEASE do respond.

Many thanks,

Matt (An extremly confused individual)

Well, you can either buy a USB2 cable from Apple or a firewire card, they are your only options.

It is MUCH more convinient if you use firewire (as it charges through firewire as well), and the cost of the card and cable will be about the same.

You posted your mess in the Windows forum, I'm assuming that you have a PC.

Since you're getting a 2G iPod, the only way you can connect it is via Firewire. Only the 3G iPods can connect via USB 2.0.

Firewire cards for desktop PCs (i.e. PCI) are not really expensive. Here in the Netherlands they are around US$15-20, so I'd guess they'd be about the same elsewhere if not cheaper. That is the best solution.

You COULD also get an external Firewire/USB 2.0 hub, but it's more expensive, and you also need USB 2.0 ports on your PC. And I am not sure how it would work with an iPod.

If you have a laptop/notebook, you can get a PCMCIA card with Firewire ports. That will set you back around US$30.

Thankyou very much for responding. Looks Like I'll be getting a firewire card then. Once again thanks! :).

Cards are cheep, just look on eBay. I am sure you can find a generic card for $20 shipped, I did.
