I'm trying to connect my Shuffle to my work's PBX. The PBX's On hold music accepts a mono phone jack. I bought a male-male stereo mini-jack cable and a stereo to Mono adapter to put on the end. When I connect it, it sounds great for about 45 seconds and then starts to skip. The skipping is terrible after that about every 3 seconds or so.

I also tried using the Monster ICable with a stereo to mono adapter on the end, with the same results.

I got the same skipping sound when I used the adapter and plugged it into my computer's sound card, so I don't think it is the phone system that is the problem.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

if you play the shuffle out of headphones does it skip? if not, then the cable configuration is your problem.

I found out that the shuffle isn't able to do this. It works just fine with a Mini and Nano.

i'm still confused as to why, though. is it an impedence issue? many people have said the shuffle drives huge cans just fine, so i'm nut sure why it would have trouble with this.

Sorry, I don't know. All I know is that hooking an adapter from stereo to mono to the Shuffle caused problems where using the exact setup with a Mini and Nano did not. I'm bummed I had to shell out an additional $100, but I am glad my onhold music is finally working. Thanks for your posts.
