Right i iwll attempt to put you in the picture again.

I recently purchased a new laptop a "acertravelmate" as my previous one gave up on life ! I tunes worked perfectly on this machine.

I thought by using a new computer my ipod would work corectly - i loaded up itunes, entered my seriel number and connected my ipod which by the way is a 20gb black and white with 3k songs on it.

After acepting all the agreements a message appeared saying my ipod needs to be configured for use on my laptop. For this message i clicked no as i was afraid my ipod would be wiped of all music.

I then disconnected and connected again, and a message appeared "one of your usb's has malfuntioned" Again i believe linked to not configuring my ipod.

After some time another message appears - A few minutes later a message loads up onto my screen which says " IPOD
NOT READABLE, ON YOUR PC - CLick UPDATE TO RUN IPOD UPDATER WHICH WILL ALLOW
YOU TO REFORMAT OR RESTORE YOUR IPOD" I have attempted to update my ipod but
by clicking ok the only option available is to restore my ipod, underneath the box it says all music will be lost and all files.(Which i dont want to occur)

Some further info for you - within my computer in the f drive the ipod shows up as apple ipod - i attempted to explore the ipod and thought i could remove files and save them to my computer, then configure ipod and load songs back on however after 5mins another similar message appears " Disk in f drive is not formatted, do you want to format it now?" i clicked no as i dont want to loose all my music.

Other suggestions people have made is load up itunes and enabe disk use in ipod options or manulally manage songs etc, this theory would work in essenence if my ipod was recognised however as its not this option is not available.

People have also suggested programmes suc as copypod etc, this in theory does work but again only if your ipod is recognised and configured.

So all in all i have hit a brick wall, is there a way i can save my music or do i have to bite the bullet and loose all my music ?

Anyone who has experiened similar problems i request your help - any advice would be welcomed as at the moment i cannot upload new music !

Many thanks for your time.

Kind Regards,

Andrew

Sounds like you'll have to run the Updater and reformat the iPod.
