Hi,

I just got a new computer with windows xp ans sp2 and when i try to connect my iPod to the comp through firewire the screen lights up on the ipod, but it doesnt connect. As in it doesnt appear in itunes or on my computer as a removable drive.

Weird thing is that a couple of days ago it did work, but now it doesnt

I havent installed anything in the mean time.

I have ASUS 8snlsi deluxe mobo and am using those firewire connections. Please help. Ive searched these forums and googled it several times but to no avail.

EDIT: Ive tried all my firewire ports (i have 3, 2 from mobo , one from audigy zs 2 soundcard). They dont work. Only thing that happens is that screen lights up on ipod, battery icon shows the ipod is being charged, then it freezes, and the light keeps burning.)

Thanks

I recommend using XP's restore feature to "go back" in time when it worked.

Well, Thanks for the idea, but I havent installed any drivers in the mean time so I dont think that would work. I was more hoping for a solution that tackles the problem. As I said, ive searched other forums too and this problem seems to happen quite a bit but noone has found a solution to it yet. :(

Electronic things just don't break by themselves, something happenedd to it. Maybe u forgot u installed something. The fact that people click on websites every single day (the click starts a chain event in the background) sometimes is enough to "change" something. Virus? U have Windows auto-update enable?

U dismiss my idea too easily.

Nah bob. Dont get me wrong, i appreciate it very much that you are spending time thinking about a solution to my problem (I really do!). But the fact that i dismiss a driverissue is because I have all the latest drivers and everything works fine. The firewire port works aswell (tested it with a cam) so thats not it. Also, USB works fine meaning its not that the ipod is broken. The fact that the Ipod does get power from the firewire card seems to point at some sort of detection issue.

I agree it sounds really weird that one day it works fine and the next it doesnt. And honestly I havent installed anythng in the meantime.

Could you maybe tell me where the option is to go back in time in xp? Thanks.

Try opening a file called Ipodservice located in the Bin folder in the IPOD folder located in your Programs folder. My file is located here and I did the default install C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\Ipodservice

This program allows your computer to "see" or detect your Ipod when it is plugged into the firewire port on your PC.

After running this program by double clicking it go to your task manager and verify it is running by checking for the program name in the process listing.

If this is running and still your PC is having issues you may have a different problem hope this helps.
