My iPod has recently started playing up. When I try and upload songs (manual synch) the iPod gets to approx 1/3 full, and it appears that the iTunes has dropped the connection.

"Attempting to copy to the disk "IPOD" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."

I can still see the ipod on windows explorer, so it is still connected.

Once the connection is dropped , the iPod is corrupt and iTunes no longer recognises it. I have to restore using the iPod updater, and i have to start from scratch with the songs - very frustrating.

I have upgraded to the latest ITunes, using 1.4 IPod Updater, on a 6GB Mini Ipod; Windows XP SP2.

The PC is using the following drivers for the iPod:
Microsoft; Version 5.1.2535.0; Dated 01/07/2001

c:\windows\system32\drivers\disk.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\PartMgr.sys

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Have you tried using the system restore on your computer?

Yes - everytime the Ipod is "corrupted", I have to use the Ipod Updater to Restore back to the factory settings. Only then will Itunes work with the Ipod. I am using Ipod Updater 2005-10-12.

Once I have restored the Ipod, I start loading the songs - 200-300 songs in, and I get the same problem.

I had a somewhat similar problem when using the USB ports on my computer, which were not 2.0 ports. I installed a USB 2.0 PCI card in my machine, and when I use those ports the problem goes away. Are you using USB 2.0?
