Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. How's it going? I have finally brought myself to install an iPod connection in my truck. I've been reading around, and this is how I'm thinking of doing it.
I have an Alpine receiver, but don't want to buy the iPod adapter because I want to control song selection using the iPod and not the headunit. I've bought an Alpine 121B (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-AEFnnFV6rIE/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=alpine+121b&i=500KCA121B) cable to go from the headunit to a Monster iCable (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-AEFnnFV6rIE/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=icable&i=119AICIP). I then plan on plugging the end of the iCable into a line-out from the bottom of a dock connector as this would supposedly result in better quality than the headphone jack on the top.
I was debating on either getting the Sik Imp (http://www.sik.com/imp.php) or the PocketDock (http://www.sendstation.com/us/products/pocketdock/lineout-usb.html), but I was thinking. An Apple dock would have a line-out also right? Are the outputs on the docks on the back or on the bottom? Is their a USB output on these? Are they similar to THIS (http://static.zoovy.com/img/incipiodirect/W180-H89/C/cl_172_2.jpg) on eBay?
You see, I want to install the iPod on my center console somehow. I would easily be able to get the iCable in there. I was thinking of either cutting a hole the size of a dock and then inserting the dock flush with the console and having the iPod stand upright -or- cutting an iPod-sized hole and laying it down. I'm leaning towards the former, but either way will be a clean install. I'm not too worried about charging the iPod, but is there a charger out there that you could splice to the back of the cigarette lighter or something so that you don't have it sticking out from the front?
