Hey, guys i'm new so take it easy on me... lol. Anyway i had my old nano hooked up to my car so you could just plug it in like a dock with the dock conector and the head phone jack, Now that i have a video i can't do it this way because of the head phone jack being on the top. So i figured that the docks have a line out on the same kind of conector to the ipod so i found a labled picture of a opened dock and wired my line out cabe to the points left, right and audio ground. The sound comes out clear until i switch it to charge, i still get sound but it is all distorted. Just letting you know how i have it set up in the car so not to confuse you, i have a extra 12v outlet i put under my center console where the charger plugs into, then there is a switch to switch onpower to the outlet so i can charge my ipod on command. well when the switch is off it works fine and then when i start to charge it, i get the distortion. Sorry if this confuses you, here is a simple way to say what i did the, SIK DIN. Can anyone help me out here. Oh and i was alsowondering if i could use rcas, left and right instead of a 3.5mm headphone jack? Thanks guys, and sorry if this is confussing as hell.

Your car power is not clean enough for the iPOD (charging fine, but the noise...).
Strap an additional ground wire from the head's chassis to the car's chassis.
If the above doesn't work, if this was me, I would run a separate power cable directly from the battery to this iPOD outlet (with a fuse or course).
Soon enough, there will be someone here suggesting to u to use a ground loop isolator. As long as your are happy with the frequency response of this gadget, go for it.

i have the power going staright form the bat. so i can charge when the car is off, and i am not sure what you mean by cars head, do you mean the front end, i have a ground wire going the front end and to the rear, i think it could just be the solder or something, i only soldered the wires to the top pins not the bottom ones, would that makew a difference?

Did you use a good gauge power cable, 8 ga or larger? If u did, may as well power the head with this cable too, as many factory cables are barely adecuate. If you are worried leaving the head on and draining battery, wire a relay controlled by the ACC feed.
Head = front end = receiver. Make sure that your head is SOLIDLY GROUNDED. Use a good sized strapping ground cable for this purpose is best, and also run a similar cable between a inside (cabin) chassis to the engine compartment's chassis.
You may also experiment with an alternator wine filter available at any auto part store.
