I had an iTrip for my 4g (no color) iPod and was not pleased. It worked well while I had people over to play poker and set my iPod directly on top of a radio. It worked pretty well in my Ford Focus (antenna in front center of car). Worked OK in '97 VW Jetta (antenna in front driver's side). Worked horribly in Acura Legend (antenna back driver's side). It really seemed to depend on the proximity of the antenna even though we are only talking about a matter of 2 or 3 feet. However, when I gave the iTrip to my mom, it works EXTREMELY well in her Buick Century. I mean, it really sounds great for her.

I'll be buying my 5g iPod tomorrow and need an FM transmitter that works. It seems as though the Kensington Digital earns high praise. Can anyone compare the older iTrip to the Kensington? I have used the DLO Transpod and it seems to work well in all 3 cars. It's just a bit bulky and pricey.

Thanks.

Gusweb, when you were using your iTrip, did you ever have your iPod charging at the same time? The orginial iTrip worked better if your iPod was being charged via the dock connector while it played your music. That would ground it out.
I've had both transmitters. The Kensington blows the iTrip out of the water. Charges your pod while it plays, and is closer to a "line out" connection by using the bottom dock connector. Just make sure you use the "treble reducer" on your pod if you buy it. The Kensington likes to overload some songs with too much treble. Other than that it's a excellent transmitter!

I had the Airplay and it sounded like an AM radio. The Kensington I have now sounds great. A bit of sibilance now and again, but leaps and bounds ahead of the Airplay. I really enjoy listening to the iPod in the car now.
