Ipod not showing up on itunes

i have a mac osx 10.1.5 and an ipod 30GB and when i plug it into my computer ipod doesnt show up on itunes!!!

hey natashabasha,

i just got my 60 gig ipod video yesterday and still can't get it to show up in itunes. the computer recognizes it but i think my current opperating system is preventing itunes from seeing the ipod. i'm running itunes 6.0 on OSx 10.3. from other pages i think my 1.1 USB is also an issue but shouldn't affect itunes from seeing it.... so that leaves me to think i need tiger 10.4.3 to run i tunes with my ipod correctly. without spending 120 dollars or waiting 5 hours online to download it (i have the curse of dial up) i am out of luck.

according to this you need 10.3.9 minimum to use an iPod video....

I'm having the same problem basically. I have Mac with OSX v10.2.4 and iTunes v3.01. I got a 60GB 5th generation iPod stupidly expecting there to be some way to download music to it from any computer with a USB port.

I couldn't run the iPod Updater that came with it on my own computer, so I ran it on my friend's PC with which I was able to activate my iPod, name it, and load some music onto it from his iTunes.

Using third party applications on my own computer, I can access the music file that we saved onto it. I can even listen to it without saving it to my hard drive. But iTunes still won't recognise it as a source.

Is there anything at all I can do to directly load music from my Mac to my iPod short of upgrading my OS? Are there any third party applications I could use? Would downgrading the firmware help at all? How about formating it for Mac instead of Windows?

If I do update my OS, what issues should I be aware of?
