Just got a black 2 gig nano for my birthday. I am now officially obsessed.

While I think the stock earbuds sound fine, they hurt. I tried the foam covers and it really doesn't help.

So I go to my local Circuit City and purchase a set of Senn MX 550's thinking it would be an improvement in both sound and comfort. While they felt better, I thought the sound pretty much sucked. Nowhere near the bass response as the original stock buds.

Can someone recommend a good earbud that offers excellent bass and treble reproduction? I am not interested in IEC's, as I need to hear what is going on around me. TIA.

I had the same experience with the Sony MDREX71SL's. Significantly greater comfort, better high-end, but virtually non-existent bass. I'm tempted to give those add-on Griffin EarJams a shot, more for comfort than anything else. I'm certainly not planning to spend a fortune on earbuds, as I'm beginning to believe the cost/benefit just won't be there.

This is a little bit off topic, but another reason why the BASS is not as great as you'd like it to be is also because the iPod. iPod doesn't produce the greatest sound quality, as there are also other players that do a much better job. I just tested out my headphones on the iPod and then my iRiver and there was a HUGE difference in sound quality, and I thought it was my headphones. Right now, I'm going to see if I can make a good EQ to match this.

As for a headphone suggetion...
FontopiaŽ Stereo Headphones
MDR-ED21LP
are great headphones for bass, and they are great headphones. They are really cheap, but they aren't noise canceling ones either. That was my experience with them, but that wasn't with the iPod...but I'm sure these will do great.

The audio techinica ath-cm4 should be the way to go! Their sound are clear and analytical! They also come with in line volume control which should be perfect to use with iPod Nano

I actually fing the sound quality of my nano quite good. My wife has an MP3 player from Creative and I believe the nano sounds considerably better.

The stock earbuds that came with it provide good bass response. But like I said, they hurt my ears.
