View Full Version : Raising an old topic: heat and cases
So, not to raise an old issue again, but in looking at three cases for my 30 GB ipod:
FlipStand
ShowCase
eXo
I'm wondering what sort of long term experience people have with charging and syncing their iPods inside their cases.
Actually, this would hold true true for other cases, like the PodPaq.
So, any new thoughts on this topic?

Well, the only time my iPod even got warm was when I installed an OS on it and used it for a hour or so. Unless you are doing that, heat isn't that big of issue.
The Frost iSkin eXo is probably the case I am going to buy.

Ive charged my ipod in an exo and flipstand and nothing has happened. Not even gotten warm. I know apple doesnt advise of it but nothing has ever happened to me.

Mine gets a little toasty from time to time inside the exo, but only when I'm tranferring files for an extended amount of time. And even then, it appears to cause no problems, and having the case on or off makes very little difference in the amount of heat the iPod generates.

The question isn't about how much heat the iPod generates but the ability of the iPod to allow that heat a way to get away from the iPod. Concern of charging and doing things in cases has to do with heat being trapped near the iPod for extended periods of time.
But either way. You know what apple recommends and you'll get peoples experience. You'll make your decesion from that. But know if anything does end up happening due to charging/transferring while in case apple won't cover those damages.
Good Luck,
Stuart
This topic has been raised before, as you pointed out in the first line of your post, and it has been debated heavily, with a clear division, amongst members as to the rights and wrongs of charging/syncing 'in-case'.
Here (http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7156) is one such thread.
'studogvetmed' has summed it up - you're advised not to by the manufacturer, by numerous posts and a FAQ (http://www.ipodlounge.com/faqs_more.php?id=1480_0_10_0_C) but if you do and it cooks your iPod, don't expect Apple to be sympathetic to any warranty claims.
As Apple has not changed it's advice on this, I am closing this thread.
