I'm going to be picking up an 30g iPod video later this week and am curious about the quality of the headphones that come with the unit.

1.Are they decent?

2.What is the least you can spend and get headphones that are an improvement over the stock headphones?

3. In that price range, what headphones would you recommend?

Primary use will walk/light jog on treadmill so ergonomics will be a factor too.

TIA

BTW, are these available in stores yet, or just though apple? I'd prefer to go buy it locally, but can order if I have to.

They should be available in stores, but if you will be using it on a treadmill, the nano might work a bit better for you. The regular ipods have the hard drive that could make the songs skip (or even damage) due to all that jostling. The nano is much lighter and it has the flash drive making it more ideal for active use. There are mixed reviews on the quality of the included headphones, but a good pair of Sonys run $30-50 (EX51, 71s, 81s) and should be all you need to get a more than decent improvement over the stocks. From what I hear, the main difference between the three are the 71s have the longer cord, and the 81s have the ear piece to ease in keeping it on your head.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hmmm, I do want the video capability though. I work shift work, so I may sneak it along every now and then and watch an episode of lost or something.

Also, the capacity is soooo much greater than the nano for a pretty similar price.

Can anyone else comment about the skipping. I thought the buffering capability was supposed to be pretty good. Anyone job with the hard drive models?

Anyone else? I'd like to hear opinions on the Yahba Opus, if anyone has tried them too.

haha...It's hard to keep up. I was going to get a 2 gig nano, but then I thought, well for only $50 more I can get double the capacity, so I was going to get a 4g. Then days later, I see the 30g video iPods for only another $50 more. I'd better hurry up and buy one before they come out with another release.

Yeah, I was at Best Buy and I was looking at the prices.

2gig Ipod Nano, 199
30gig 4G 249
30gig 5G 299

Needless to say, I have the 5G as of yesterday afternoon

Oh, and if you were to think about any of the headphones I have (all quality btw) you're going to be spending at least $100

You can buy them at BestBuy now? I thought they were pre-order only. I was going to order one from Apple today, but I'd rather buy it as Best Buy so I can get the reward points.

Do not mean to flame you, but how much better does Shure e3c sound compare to those two Bose you owned? Just curious.

1. The stock headphones are okay for stock headphones, but lack punch.

2. You can get significant improvement in sound by spending 20 dollars or less. Try the Koss Porta-pro or KSC (35-55-75) series for the most bang/buck.

Thanks. I got my G5 on Saturday and love it. The stock headphones hurt my ears after a short while though. I just ordered a pair of Shure E2's. ($69 with free shipping)
