Hey, does anyone use a PDA screen protector on an iPod? I think I am going to bestbuy to get a 60gb black ipod and I want some sort of clear case/protector.

Anyway, can I use the pda protectors there? Are they any good? What size do I need and does the click wheel work right with it over?

Yes. I have a whole bunch of them on it. I had to cut them and fit them on my black 30GB. It took a while, and was risky considering I was cutting the material with an exacto knife ON the iPod. No scratches, but it's risky business! The screen looks sharp and clear. I really recommend using PDA screen protectors.

I used left over pda protectors from my compaq that I use to own. I now own a Axim X50, but for the protector, I think it was made by belkin. I just cut a size that covered the screen area. That is what I am mostly concerned about. I guess Ill leave that on until something good comes out.

I use PDA protectors by "Fellowes". They are called "WriteRight" screen protectors, and they come in universal sizes, and are meant to be cut. The backing of the protectors has a cutting guide so you can cut it pretty easily if you measure out your iPod. It took me MANY tries to get it to a satisfactory fit though. Do this only if you have a lot of time on your hands (or you're ok with airbubbles). I really recommend getting an exacto knife and using these, becuase the cutting guide makes it so you don't have to cut the shields whhile they're on your iPod, you can cut them before hand.

I'll put up pictures tomorrow, I tried taking pictures but its too dark, and the flash makes it hard to see.

I cover almost the entire front except for some tiny corners, and the back and the sides, not the top or bottom.

Sorry, my GF has my camera and I haven't seen her in a few days, so I haven't been able to post pictures but here are a few comments after a few days of usage.

If you cover the click wheel with the WriteRight, you lose a LOT of feedback. The clicks don't really register anymore, and the material is hard to move your finger over, so it doesn't scroll well anymore. The protection is pretty good, but the covers are pretty cheaply made, they aren't as strong as the IS or MF covers. Just using the credit card to squeegie out the initial bubbles scratched the cover. There are a few hairline scratches on the cover becuase of the CC, something many people have said didn't even leave a mark on their IS and MF covers.

I suggest wrapping the Credit card that you use in a microfiber cloth when you squeegie out bubbles so youd on't scratch. Other than the loss of tactile response in the wheel, I'm pretty happy with the results, as it really protects the iPod well and I am certain when i remove the film to put on my IS when it gets here in the mail, there will be no scratches and it will still be a perfect iPod!

Also, the method is not really a good long term solution as the WriteRight covers have anti glare coating on them, so you get this pixely rainbow effect on the screen when you are looking at solid colors (like when you're looking at the plain white menu, you see a lot of tiny little rainbow particles). The covers are thin though and good enough to cover until you get a real case. The plastic is super thin, my roommates didn't even know i had a cover in the iPod.

here is a tip. if you need to cut a screen protecter to fit your ipod use the image on the ipod box. might save your ipod unnecesary exacto knife scratches.
