View Full Version : Odd question: Do they smell?
This may seem weird, but...
These silicon rubber cases, like the iSkin, and eXo, et al., do they stink? I mean, do they have a rubbery smell?
Some forms of rubber have a certain smell that tends to fry my nose hairs.
I'm really interested in buying one of these cases for my iPod, but I don't want to find out the hard way that the thing smells like a tire factory or something.
I know, I've got issues....

I read on iSkin.com's FAQs (http://www.iskin.com/faq.html) that they smell slightly when they're new, but if you just wash them it should go away.
I don't have one yet, so I can't say that for sure, but I'm sure someone who owns one will chime in here in a sec...:)
I don't have mine yet, but I read many times that they do indeed have an odor wich fades after wash and use.
This would seem logical since all new plastic products smell like dead barbies.

They don't reek like some week-old cheese sitting in direct sunlight on your kitchen countertop...you'd have to put them right up against your nose to smell anything.

when you get them new they have this smell but after 1 or 2 washes you can't smell a thing

haven't smelt anything on mine either...and I haven't washed it in the 3 weeks since I've had it unlike most people.

My iSkin smelled a little at first but it didn't smell bad, nothing like a racquetball or rubber. It doesn't smell really at all anymore.

yes you would smell it only if u put it in front of ur nose. But since ur not gonna hold ur ipod in front of ur nose all the time so it shouldnt concern u.

My pearl smelled for maybe 2 dayse like rubbery plastic. Otherwise it went away

Hey I like new iSkin scent!
Just got my iSkin ( both of em' ) in the mail today.
Not a whiff of the rubbery smell I expected it to have.

I'm happy to report that I just received mine and they don't stink!
I was afraid they would smell like plungers. :p

I received mine today and they do have a bit of a smell to them. Washing them and letting them dry as we speak...so hopefully the smell goes away :)
