Since the new 5G came out, I quite dont like it that much. So lets make a list of things why the color/photo iPod is better than the 5G, Ill start with number 1
1. Firewire connection

1. Firewire connection
2. Accessories that use the jack next to the mic plug actually work... dock connector Itrip? NO THX.

3. Both models have a short battery life when playing videos. The 30GB model only gets 14 hours when listening to music, that is not a battery improvement.
4. Has the same casing as the iPod nano, may scratch easily.
5. (This one has to do with iTunes). $1.99 a music video? Come on! I can find a lot of websites that offer free music video downloads. If they wanted to charge for these then they should have bumped the price down to $.99.
6. Must have QuickTime pro (not free) to make your own videos for the 5G iPod.

7. Doesn't scratch as easy.

I have already paid for mine... why would I want to spend more on a 'newer' pod??? Mine works as well as it did the first day and will continue to do so until it wears out. Talk to me then about replacement!!

Yes but if you go through the procedures Apple gives you then you have to pay for QuickTime pro.

8. You get the wall adapter so you can reformat your ipod.

That was my whole point. I have tons of software apps that can encode in the h264 standard (or the AVC standard based off of h264). They are not entirely illegal but the acts commited on them are such as converting movies, TV programs, etc. To LEGALLY make your own videos you must use QuickTime 7 pro.
Just thought of a couple more:
9. Only comes with pouch, USB 2.0 cable, earbuds, and software CD's. Where the hell are all the extra's that should come from buying the high end iPod line?
10. (This one has to do with iTunes) Currently there is no movie support. I would happily pay $9.99 for a full length movie including some extras.
11. The LCD is nice and clear but it would look better in the 16X9 format.
12. The LCD still looks good but it would be better to have a horizontal screen for viewing much larger videos.
13. The 30GB model only comes with 32MB of cache. This is fine and all but the 60GB model comes with 64MB of cache. This is the first time that there is an actual hardware difference (besides the hard drive sizes) between the lower and upper full iPod lines.
I know I am being really harsh on the new iPod but still. It is the new generation iPod (finally) and Apple still needs some improvements. Hopefully they will either come out with a totally new generation iPod next year or come out with an updated 5G iPod with a lot of the considerations taken care of. Really. A $400 iPod should come with a lot of accessories such as a AC adapter, actual case (the cases originally included with the 3G and 4G Photo iPods look like the best cases ever when compared to the 5G included slip cases), and maybe something else that the other iPod models don't get (like the 3G 20GB and 40GB models got the wired remote while the 3G 10GB and 15GB models didn't).

I don't think apple fully thought this product through, the same with the nano. I think they just rushed it onto the market.

word....
im gonna wait till my 30 gig wears down and by then hopefully apple will have a better iPod, one with longer batt life (while playing videos) and an easier way to import your own videos without going through another program...
like if you could import videos through iTunes just like you import music.
but im happy with my photo anyway
P.S. Blackmane, nice find in your siggy....howd you figure that out?

"Press "Select Select Menu Select" for the Album Art to Stay on"
Maybe you could clarify... this doesn't seem to have any sort of effect on my album art...

On the song that you are playing in rapid succession press Select Select Menu Select, it has to be quick are is best when you don't see the front menu.

Can the iPod "photo" or the iPod 5G be connected to a dock for music and charge (at same time), yet have an A/V cable plugged in the top to display video on the television?
thanks!
