FYI for everybody...

I emailed invisibleshield the following:

Will you be selling an invisible shield for the new ipod that has a click wheel
cut-out, like you do for the nano?

They responded with this:

Hello!

We apologize it's taken this long to get back to you.

All the shields for the new "video" iPod will have the click wheel cut out. We
thank you for your interest and look forward to your order. We guarantee you'll
love the invisibleSHIELD!

Sincerely,

Zach

That pretty much sells it for me. Seems like they should mention that on their website.

Why do that? I wouldn't want my click wheel to get all scratched up :\ I don't think having the film on the wheel would affect the function if at all.

You must not have read up on the invisibleshield much then. You should read this thread.

Think about it. You have a flat piece of plastic covering a surface that is flat except for the moving clickwheel. To press the buttons, you are going to change that surface and it won't be flat anymore. Many people have said this causes problems with the feedback and function of the buttons.

SO when are they shipping?

How clear are the invisibleshields? Some of the pictures I've seen make it look like they have a textured surface. Just wondered how good video will look through them.

kkj1961: According to several iLounge members and to the people at Rainy Day Magazine, there is no degradation in image quality on the Nano. I would expect the same will hold true for the iPod, as long as it is applied properly.

I preordered mine several days ago. I had no idea they were only selling the cutout versions. They really should mention that.

There definitely is loss in quality of viewing on the nano. It makes a bit of a prism effect. Like a thousand tiny ones. It isn't terrible. It doesn't bother me much on the nano. But to say there is no loss in clarity is just plain wrong. It's difficult to put on as well. It took me 3 times. When they say wet ur finger tips that is very important. If they stick to it u can get fingerprints. I have a part of one. Overall I really like it though. does a great job at protecting my nano. I might get it 4 my video pod too. I'm sure This one would go on smoother, now i have the tec. down. Soapy water! keep wetter than u think u need. You will need it.

A lot of people tend to disagree with you about the loss of clarity. I hope I will be one of them, but only time will tell.

I'm not particularly thrilled about the application process either, but for the most part, people seem to have done alright. I'm less worried with the click wheel cutout, although it will probably be harder to align.

I emailed them this morning asking when they might start sending out the new shields, and they answered me this evening! They even looked up my order so they could write me a personalized response (it wasn't totally canned), and that really counts for something these days.

Matthew,

Thank you for your pre-order of the invisibleSHIELD for Video iPod! We have the design complete and are sending out the pre-orders today. Your order number ###### was received on 17 October and will be one of the first to go out. Please expect 4-5 business days for delivery.

Thank you for choosing the invisibleSHIELD. We appreciate your business!

I wonder if this is true because someone just installed one on his 60gb 5g and it didn't have the center cut out.

yeah, they posted that in the main ipod forum...said it was covered

No, I'm pretty sure he was mistaken or there was a misunderstanding. He said it had a cut in the material for the wheel, but he didn't take it out. If you look at Rainy Day's nano version 2 (with cutout) install (http://rainydaymagazine.com/RDM2005/GearNGadgets/October2005/RDMGG_InvisibleShieldCutOut.htm), you can see that it comes as one piece and you essentially punch out the wheel bit.

on the IS website did your order status change or does it still say "new order (1)"?

Hey, anyone who got their 5G IS yet, did a tracking number ever show up for you on the web site? My 5G iPod just arrived, so I'm anxiously awaiting some protection for it :)

Man. Just got mine and maybe I'm using too much water, but I'm having trouble getting it to stay in place. Also having trouble getting the little "flaps" at the corners of the back piece to stay put.

Let the flaps dry partway (on the web site it says 1 minute, but it had actually been drying for more like 10 or 15 minutes by the time this worked), and then hold the flap down for about 30 seconds or so.

yeah i got mine today too and just finished installing it

just make sure you get all the bubbles out before you worry about the little flaps, like mrogers said they take awhile to become sticky enough to stay put. it helps to use something flat like your desk or a credit card to push and hold the entire flap down at once

Did either of you install the shield on the click wheel, or did you leave it uncovered? Don't suppose you can tell how clear the display will be until it dries for 24 hours.
