I emailed Contour because I was curious to know if they would be making a clear Contour case for the 5G iPod like the ones they currently make for the 4G. I have one for my U2 iPod now and I love it.

They emailed me back and said:

"We are currently working on a case for the new video iPods but do not yet have an estimated release date. Please continue to check our website ( www.contourcase.com) for additional details/updates on this product (we will also register you to receive email notification when the item becomes available.) Thanks."

Here is what the Nano case looks like that will be released soon:

I too will be waiting for the clear case (iSee for Nano) for the 5G...this seems to be the best case on the market with the best protection and best visablility for the video.

I'm waiting for a 5G version of the ShowCase. I prefer it to the regular clear ones. I thought initially that the new ShowCase Sport was designed for the 5G, but a recent clarification on their web site reveals that it's not.

Same here. Been through 3 of the showcase things for various family members ipods, and they ahve really taken a beating and kept on kicking along. the silicone edging really helps absorb some impacts.

I ordered the invisible shield for my 5g, but will also be using it with a case when they hit the market. The invisible shield can't protect from falls, and the other case can't protect the screen while on docks, so you have to kinda get the best of both worlds.

I love my Showcase for my 4G but I am thinking that I prefer something slimmer with my 5G.

I think the isee might be the right choice if they come out with one.

toughest thing so far with owning the new 5g ipod is deciding wot case to go with. i've considered the invisibleshield thingy as well as the martin fields shield but i'm kind of a klutz when it comes to things like that. most likely if i try to apply that stuff i'll really mess things up. i'm looking for a case that doesn't take away anything from the ipod's awesome design and so far the contour case looks like something i'd like to get. hopefully they can release it soon.

I am also waiting for the 5G version of the showcase. I am currently using the 4G showcase with my 5G 60GB. It works with the middle-size spacer installed, although there is a gap between the face of the iPod and the clear cover of the case. This is due to the flat design of the 5G vs. the rounded edge of the 4G. The rubber supports at the inside edges of the front of the case hold the iPod securely, so it appears to be a good stop-gap solution.

Could you post some pics? I'd be interested to see this in action.

Sorry, but I don't have a camera available at the moment for pics. I'll give you the best description that I can though.

The gap between the face of the unit and the plastic faceplate of the case is 1/8" (4mm), so it is noticeable but not ugly. If you had never seen a 4G unit in a showcase, you would probably think it was normal.

The entire screen is visible inside the plastic faceplate of the case. The look and functionality of the screen is fine.

The wheel is slightly smaller than the 4G model. The bottom of the wheel is 1-2mm above the bottom of the cutout in the faceplate. The top and sides of the wheel are 3-4mm inside the edges of the cutout, but it looks symmetrical. This is probably the only part of the setup that one could tell was not the way it was designed. However, the wheel is entirely functional and the gap does not interfere in a negative way with its use.

Using the middle-sized spacer, the dock connector, hold button, and headphone jack are all perfectly accessible and are actually centered in the showcase openings.

In summary, I will buy the new showcase when it becomes available, but if I were short of money I would not feel bad at all about just leaving it this way.

I had the Contour Showcase on my 4G and then had the Invisible Shield put on the Ipod as well. Unfortunately, after the shield was applied, you could put the pod in the case but then it was hell to remove it -- the fit is way too tight. If you are seriously thinking about getting a hard case, then forget about the Invisible Shield. Not only is it not invisible (orange-peel effect on the screen) but it is also thicker than you might think, rendering many cases unusable. And forget about belt clips -- the Apple belt clip actually put dents in my Ipod once the Invisible Shield was on it -- the fit was that tight.

Everyone seems to be going gaga for the "invisible" shield and other adhesible protectors, but I can't stand them. If you're going to get a case, get a case. Hurry up, Contour.

Here are some pics of my 30GB 5G in my 4G showcase. Follow this link to see the pics: http://www.angelfire.com/realm/jk2x/ipod/5g/ipod_showcase.htm

I apologize for the quality of the pics. Lately my camera has turned to crap for some reason.

It doesn't fit or look perfect because of the gap and click wheel access whole, but it does fit secure in the case. I'm using the largest and smallest foam spacers together, and the showcase actually fits better than 20GB 4G Color iPod that I exchanged for the 5G. Using the recommended foam spacer, the 4G would slide around a little when pushed on (like attaching the cable). The 5G doesn't slide at all. I'll still probably get a showcase for the 5G when Contour finally decides to make one, but until then, this works just fine :)
