The iPod is plugged in and set, but i can't change the video options. I can't drag a converted video into it. What's goin on?

iTunes doesn't seem to accept dragging and dropping into the open Videos window (strange because that seemed most intuitive to me). I had to manually choose Add File to Library in the File menu for it to import my test .mp4 files.

I have yet to receive my new iPod so I don't know how the syncing process will work, sorry. A simple question, though: are you running iTunes 6?

Easy one this. If you are using Windows like 90% of the rest of us simply find the file you've converted and right click it (what an amazing trick that is) and select open with, then select itunes. iTunes will now import and play it.

i think he means he can't get his videos into his iPod.

go to ipod options then videos. check "Automaticlly Update All Videos". ive got my Lost episodes and a music video into my iPod but it doesn't accept my converted movies.

Thought Apple said you needed Quicktime Pro to covert MPEGs to the iPod format.

PSPVideo9 should do the same job, I have been playing around with it and it converts files which you can import and play in Itunes, So in theory they should play on the Ipod.

I think I am having the same problem. When I plug the iPod into the computer iTunes loads up and the iPod is listed in iTunes... But when I go to the iPod's options all of the items on the Video Tab (in iPod Preferences) are greyed out and unusable.

Yeah, that's why Apple has an online tutorial about how to convert your own video for viewing on the iPod (admittedly, their way requires QuickTime Pro).

im going to wait for someone else to confirm their converted videos dont play either before using quicktime pro to re-convert.

I think the original poster needs to post more information. The video should be in iTunes first, etc. Also make sure that the movie is in a supported format. It has to be MPEG4 or H.264, if not, no dice. iTunes may support more video types than the iPod does. The iPod only supports MPEG4 and H.264

Holy crap, I've been converting videos for days using PSP9. They show up on itunes, but if it doesnt work on my ipod, then I'll be so ####ed. My 5g hasn't arrived yet, so someone please find a solution to this in the next couple of days.

I don't have a 5G yet but what I've been doing is going to Add new folder to library it adds the Videos in. I aasumed you would just drag the video in the list over to the ipod and it would copy it in.

The video seems like it has to have an extension of .m4v before it will update your ipod.. I am converting a video in QTpro as I type this, but it is taking forever.. So I will repost when I have confirmation..

The conversion in QTpro did it. Watching some season 6 simpsons right now... Looks crispy, with some artifacting in the background.. But this might be from the handbrake conversion down to 320x240.. So now I am gonna Re-Rip at the 640x480 .mp4 then convert in qtpro and see what happens..

Audio sounds a little echo-e but is synced up perfectly... I love this thing already...

Thanks for that Darkness, £20 splash out for QT Pro may be the order of the day.

i re-converted my videos using the setting SP/320x240/768kbps Stereo/128 kbps on Videora iPod converter. now i have a great looking episode of Family Guy playing on my iPod.

FYI the tutorial for using mactoripper and handbrake won't work.

So far only all of my movies that PSPWare converted work great. Don't waste time like I did with handbrake and encoding. Buy PSPWare or wait for someone to release something that work. PSPWare will convert a whole movie in about 30 minutes.

DVD to iPod on Windows. This is my process, which is working great. It's two steps and takes some time... but it works. Can't complain until a new app is written specifically to do this.

I was wanting to rip episodes of television shows from a season dvd and stick them on the ipod. The best way i have found so far is as follows:

1. Rip each episode as a new VOB using DVD Shrink
2. Queue each up in the Ventur....something iPod Converter.

Each one looks awesome.

What is "a new VOB" and what is the "Ventur....something iPod Converter?" A little help please.

I used DVD shrink in Reauthor mode to create a backup of an individual episode. This backup is the layout of a dvd, but is in a folder on your drive. One of the files in the folder is the VOB, which is contains the raw video.

You use the Videora iPod Converter software (look in this forumn for a link or google it) to convert that VOB to a mp4 file for your iPod.

I have not found a good way to quickly rip multiple episodes at a time... so I put a disc in, rip the 3 or four episodes into separate backups using dvdshrink... then queue each up in the convert and let it chug away doing conversion at night. In the morning I copy them into iTunes and take them with me on the iPod if I will be watching them that day.

I can't get into more specifics than that, but if you dig around or start tinkering you will be able to figure it out.

For reference a 44 minute show is taking about 280MB.

Once you guys get it to mp4, how do you add it on to your ipods? the only ones that are compatible for me are ones converted from quicktime.

I've been using DVD Decrypter to make the .vob

Then I use Videora to convert to .mp4 using H264/320x240/768kbps Stereo/128kbps.

The videos come out great and I can add them to iTunes and play them in iTunes, but I can't transfer them to my iPod. It says they can't be copied becuase they can't be played on the iPod.

What am I doing different than the others using Videora?

You need to use "SP" mode in Videora to play it in the ipod.

Maybe you guys can help me out. I've been converting DVDs the same way, with dvd decryptor, but the playback is messed up. It plays consistently but repeats the same scenes twice before moving on. Anyone else with this problem? What setting are you using for dvd decryptor?

SP mode fixed it all.

I haven't experienced any scene repeating. Have a couple movies already loaded and they're playing great so far.

I'm having a lot of problems converting video w/Quicktime Pro. Here's my dilemma:

I'm using Nero Recode for DVD and Boilsoft ASF Converter for WMV files. When I do the Nero ones and export them in Quicktime I get perfect audio but weird scrambled picture. When I convert WMV to Avi files and then export those I get audio but no picture. And this is doing the Ipod video export. What the crap?! I spent 30$ on the thing. Is there like a missing codec or something?

Where is the SP setting? All I see is H264/320x240/768kbps Stereo/128kbps.
but no SP/H264/320x240/768kbps Stereo/128kbps.

Is this in Videora Converter?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Luis

Yes, it is in the Videora Converter, not Quicktime.

I use a bit of software called Total Video Converter, you can get a 15 day trial off their website. Simple to use just select convert to "ipod mpeg 4" and it just does it in no time.

Then just drag them into iTunes and you should see them under videos in the iPod menu.
