Regarding the Battery life

I am slightly confused, I know it's been reported to be 2-3 hours.

But is that watching a 4gb video where the iPod needs to constantly spin?

Cause some movie files, can be compressed into that of a song so not much spinning there, but I suppose it actually showing a video would decrease the battery life.

But would it decrease it that much? Or is the HDD spinning not a factor at all?

The reduction in battery life when playing video is basically from two things: the HDD spinning all the time and the screen being lit up all the time (there may also be some power used in decoding the video). I don't know what effect making a smaller video would have, but I'm guess not a huge one, and it's not like you can get watchable video in a 5 or 6MB file.

You can watch videos with the backlight off right? Just with great difficulty...
