Please note: Ripping DVDs you don't own is very illegal! Dont do it... or at least don't admit you are doing it.

What's the advantage of using MacTheRipper and not using HandBrake directly from the DVD?

Encoding a full legnth movie can take almost 24 hours with handbreak. If you first rip the video files it will only take 25 minutes, then 24 hours of encoding straight from the hard drive instead of having to encode from the DVD directly for hours after hours.

Well it only takes me 5 hours for a full movie on my iMac G5.

Yes, I forgot to mention that the apps are mac only.
It may take a while to get the files coded and compressed, but in the end each video only takes about 400mb, which isnt bad at all for a full length flick.
I advise you start the conversion before you go to work or school, and when you come home they should be done and ready to watch. Its like a suprise party every time you come home from work!

That's the way to go.
The more RAM going towards HandBrake, the faster it will convert. Its best not to use your machine while converting.

Well now that I got my 5G iPod I found out that um... this doesnt work. I guess the frames per seconds (fps) are to high to be played on the iPod. It has to be at MOST 29.5 fps, and when converted using this system it has god knows how many.
So uh, my bad I guess.

I wonder if Handbrake's author can add an option to make it exactly 30 FPS... that's what is on Apple's specs...

I figured that was the max fps, not the *required* fps, but who knows.
