Ok, I was wondering if you all could explain to me the "Ipod Socks." I don't understand what they do. Is it like a regular sock? is it a sock that is really small, just big enough for the Ipod? Thanks in advance.

its not a sock per say. its more like a streachy cloth pouch that will fit any ipod. all you can really do is listin to it tho because there are no acess to controls except maybe the hold switch while it is inside. it is usefull to protect it from scratches and dents while in a bag or pocket but not much else. i like them because i can take it in and out quickly unlike other types of cases.

so whould you recomend it?

It will protect your iPod from scratches. But it's better to get a Case. Because if you put your iPod in the iPod Sock, you have to take it out
each time to change volume, change tracks, or to do anything.
However, it looks pretty cool (I like the Grey one) and you can maybe
can one off ebay for like $5~6 s/h included for 1 sock. It's something
that's just "nice" to have.

Doesn't the sock itself scratch the iPod a little? The material itself doesn't look very iPod freindly.

i would recomend it only because i like touching and seeing the ipod itself. there is no way it is the most protective case but it works for transportation and stroage purposous.

I have the same question as Jack, does the iPod sock end up scratching your iPod? I would just think that the material would end up leaving small scratches all over it.

the sock itself is fine but any slide in slide out case has the potenial too if any s**t gets in there

I purchased the 6-pack of iPod socks a long time ago and every ipod in my house has one ... I personally love the feel of the "nekkid" ipod in my hands and not in a case so it is perfect for that. I get no scratches from the ipod sock and they fit the all generations of ipod (well, not the Shuffle so well but all for other models it is perfect).

I know a lot of folks look down their noses at the socks, but I think they're fun and relatively useful. Because they're stretchy, you can plop even the largest iPod in there, even when it's still inside a proper case. This makes them ideal for protecting your iPod while traveling (keeps it from sliding/bouncing around when it's in a bag with other stuff). Of course, you could just use a regular sock, but where's the style in that? ;)

We did the same thing. My dad bought a box of them and we split them. I got the pink one for my pink mini and I think it's great. Very cute and keeps it from getting scratched in my purse. It doesn't make my ipod bulky and though I can't look at the screen through it, I can press the next, play or pause buttons through the sock by feel, and it's pretty easy to pull it out a little to read the screen or change the volume.
I think it really depends on how you use your ipod. For me, it's been really good.

Thanks a bunch for the info on the socks. Right after I posted my last message, I did a search on the socks on the forum. Seems as if there is a lot of mixed reviews on these little guys. I think for my purposes, at least while I wait for 5g cases to come out, the socks would be good. I definetly prefer the 'naked' feel of the iPod. Will be picking a box of them up when I get my new iPod. Thanks again for the help.

i won't argue about the fact that it does protect ur ipod and it does look good with it's various colors... but it's the price that gets to me. I know you get six. that's just cunning marketing designed to squeeze every dollar and cent out of the consumer. why do i need six? i need one. but no... it's not sold individually. i think they'd sell more if they allowed people to buy one at $5.

Yeah, I've been wondering if they left any small hairline scratches on it, as it'd be very visible on the chrome part of the iPod.

I'd also be very interested to know this as my iPod will be arriving soon.

They are socks! Why has anyone thought that they'd scratch their iPod? The whole point of them is to stop scratching. I love 'um as cases just make you iPod bigger, but the socks don't seem to. Also with a click wheel iPod you can still use all the buttons to skip/pause etc. through the socks.
But the downer is the price and making you buy 6 at a time. It's just a good job I'm a millionaire.

I thought they were stupid when I first saw them.
Then I actually found one in the parking lot in front of my local Blockbuster. I never would have bought the pack because I only wanted one color, grey. And that's what I found. How convenient!
I tossed it in the wash and it came out beautifully clean. Just like new.
I used it for my 3rg Gen for a while and loved it. When I got my 60GB 5th Gen last night, I put some PDA screen protectors on the screen area and all over the steel back. Then I slid it into the iPod sock.
It's working great so far. I love the little sock.

I won't have a screen protector on my iPod, so has the sock put any scratches on the front body of your iPod?

Well, I just got it last night, so it hasn't really been through a first day.
I only put the PDA protector on the screen area, so the area under and around the click wheel is naked. I don't really see any scratches on that area yet. I've been pulling it out to show to people all day so far.
Of course, you've got to assume that you're going to get a teeny tiny little piece of grit or sand in there at some point and it'll scratch the iPod all to heck. I've got an invisible shield on order. :)

OK, here's my take on it and it's only an idea, as I haven't tried one on an iPod yet. So don't flame me because it seems a lot of people around here get real testy.
Anyway, I know someone who has a whole pack of these things and although they're pretty soft, I think they may leave some small hairline scratches on the unit. They might not be visible on the front, but probably moreso on the back. The reason I'm saying this is that the material's like a generic sweater. Would you wipe your iPod off with that? I mean, if it was cashmere or something, then yeah, the iPod would be fine, but these socks aren't cashmere. Nor are they microfiber, which probably also would be fine. So from what I see, in the long run, having stuff rub up on the iPod with the sock on will probably cause some scratches, although it's far better off than rubbing up on the same things without the sock. Just my 2c.

i have used the socks for 2 weeks now (roughly) and i have NO NEW SCRATCHES in fact these socks make the ipod look better because they remove fingerprints. even the seam (the most abrasive part of the sock) leaves no scratches.
Got my green sock today. I haven't seen it because one of my friends ordered it but I want to! :p :D

I have that exact concern, if I go and get my iPod from the Apple store, I want to pick up a case for it until someone comes out with a good case (*contour*). But yeah I don't want to risk it.

I have been using the iPod socks since I bought my iPod (video) and I can say that there is not a single visible scratch on my iPod. It works quite well, at least until a hard, protective case comes out.

I just ordered my 60g 5G today and threw in the socks for the heck of it. I think they're cool, and as everyone has said, until Contour or Vaja or someone else comes out with a sturdy, stylish hard case, that's what I'll be using for protection. I'm not a fan of the adhesive shield school of iPod protection.
I like the socks. I think it's better to hold the original, 'natural', 'naked' [whatever] iPod in the hand rather than wrapping it up into plastic. Socks are great: protect but provide the iPod in its very original beauty.

I have used iskins before and the clear zip thing. Although they don't provide any protection from something dropping on them, the socks have protected my ipods since they first came out, almost a year ago now. And I intend to use them with my new iPods too.
Throughout my "iPod experience" I have used several different kinds of cases and protectors. My favorite combination by far is a trendygeek clear protector on the back, and covering the screen and an iPod Sock I got on eBay for around $5. With this combo, I get great protection on the back and screen as well as the great feel of the iPod Sock.
When I get the new ipod, it will be the only case i'll need.

it's nice, protects from scratches and
looks pretty cool also. it's still my temporary
case because i am waiting for iskin.

That is exactly how I enjoyed my 4G and when my new video iPod arrives on Friday that is what I will do again. This way you don't cover up the beauty and it is still protected.
