given that the new iPod has the same width and length dimensions as the previous one, does that mean that cases without cutouts would work, like Incase's pouches and others of a similar design?

well, cases that you just slip the ipod into should still work.

Except that they won't fit right either, because the new iPods are so much thinner than the previous ones. It would flop around inside or simply fall out. How could anyone compile a list anyway when no one has the new iPod to test with?

Probably the iPod Sock is the best bet for now ...

I just got my 60GB 5G iPod today. I tried using the original Apple slide case (I had been using with my 15GB 3G iPod), but noticed that while it fit snuggly, it left a gap between the screen and the case. This allowed dust to get in and started to create hairline scratches on the screen. I'll probably pick up some socks; the case that came with the 5G doesn't seem very functional.

If it's too thin, how about putting a rubber case on it, then putting it into the hard case?

I tried using the case that came with the 5G and inserting it into the 3G Apple Case but it doesn't fit. I would imagine you may have similar problems with a skin.

I tried using my 4G Contour Showcase. Figured if I added the extra foam inserts that came with the case, it might work temporarily until a "real" 5G case could be found.
No such luck. Among other reasons why the case wouldn't work, it didn't want to close and I sure as heck wasn't going to try to force it to!
Nope, until a Contour or similar case with a clip is released for the 5G, my new pretty iPod is going to sit encased in a sleeve on my desk. It's a shame.

Well, the 60Gb 5G is very close in thickness to the 20Gb 4G monochrome model. I would imagine that many cases for the 4G 20Gb Mono would probably fit unless they were really snug.
