I know that its bad to discharge ur battery, but is it okay to let it go to the red battery or i should charge it as soon as it gets to red? suggestions? and does it overcharge?
thanks

When it goes to red you have about 1hourish a playtime depending, i would then charge it back to full. The next time i come home of whatever i charge the battery back to full. Only once has my iPod stop completly beacuse its out of charge.

so its good to charge it when it gets to red, but not when it dies, its bad to discharge right?

No, it's not big deal to discharge your battery, and it's actually recommended once in a while to 'recalibrate' the battery readings by doing a full charge from completely discharged state.
The only thing you should worry about is leaving it discharged for long periods of time, on the order of weeks or months. Leaving the iPod battery discharged for long periods of time is no good for it. If you want to store it, charge it up to about 50% first.

I don't know about letting the battery go all the way dead. Everything I have read says that you shouldn't let the battery go all the way dead because it actually shortnes the bettery life. I'm pretty sure Apple says you should just let it get to the red once in a while, and that's enough.

Oops, the calibration thing might not be true, I was thinking about my iBook, not my iPod...... however, I wouldn't be surprised if the iPod had the circuitry to calibrate the battery meter as well.... may be possible?
As for having it discharged completely, technically there will always be a small bit of power left in it, even if your iPod stops playing because it "ran out" of battery. No big whoop..... To get it REALLY completely discharged, you have to have it sitting around doing nothing for a long time after the iPod powers off by itself.... so again, just make sure you don't leave it discharged for long periods of time....

I heard thats its good to let the battery drain all the way down only if it has battery "memory" and charging if its not fully discharged is bad. Im assuming that Apple has newer batteries in the iPods. Thats just what Ive heard

When I was talking about draining the battery, it wasn't in reference to helping maintain the chemical properties of the battery, it was in reference to circuitry that calibrates the battery meter.. however, this point is moot now because I was thinking about my iBook and not my iPod....:)
