Sorry if this has been answered before. What's the purpose of using Firewire as opposed to USB? I tried FW but it just quickly drains my battery at a rapid rate. Is there some kind of advantage?

thanks,

RC

Firewire is WAY faster than USB 1.x but I thought that the published top speeds for firewire and USB 2.0 were virtually the same? And that in most practical applications the difference is going to be negligible?

well if it's plugged to the computer not really a difference only that firewire goes a lot faster in syncing and updating your songs. other than that i don't see how it's a battery problem.

How does IEEE1394a drain your iPod faster? Are you useing a Laptop or a PC that uses an iLink? (i.e. Four Pin FireWire400),? Six Pin FireWire400 should offer a constant +12v 1.5A Powersource to what ever Device (i.e. iPod), you decide to connect it to...

That comment would only be true IF One, you were useing a USBx.x on a >3G iPod that couldn't be charged though a USBx.x Port.
