Hi ill be blunt and to the point.
Ipod - 20 gb black and white
Computer - Acer Tpod travelamate 2403wxci - brand new
Problem
Purchased new computer i then uploaded i tunes as usual. Previous computer i used a firewire so i had to purchase a usb adapter. Plugged ipod in said did not recognise usb or ipod and that my pod needed to be updated for use on my new puter. This is fine however a box came up stating configure or update. The configure was shaded out so thus could not press it and by updating i will lookse 3.5. k worth of songs. So my computer is not liking my ipod.
Next problem encountered is that everyone on previous posts suggests such programmes as copypod etc - however this would be fine and on my friends computer works a treat however even copypod does not recognise my pod !
Please can somebody help a anxious user who does not want to loose his whole collection and upload loads of cd again.
Thanks for listening.
Many Thanks

hey thanks for the advice.... still struggling however i have found a little snipet which decribes my problem to a tee on the ipod updater screen.
"Click Update. If the update button is dimmed, the software on your iPod is either already up to date or is newer than the version in the iPod Software Updater application" - This is the case with mine - can you suggest a way round this.
Any feeback will be much appreciated !

Why do you need to update it if it is already updated.
If you want to restore your ipod click the restore button and it will erase your ipod and reinstall the OS software.

hye i have posted severl times and so far all answers have not aided my problem
I have a 20Gb black & white ipod - i recently purchased a new laptop a - acer travelmate 2403wkci (Brand new). There was no firewire cable thus i had to buy a firewie to usb connector.
My ipod has 3.5 k songs on it an my puter says usb not recognises - after quite a bit of time a box loads up saying my pod needs to be updated. Fair enough i though, however i found this snipet on another post and this somes up my problemQ
"Click Update. If the update button is dimmed, the software on your iPod is either already up to date or is newer than the version in the iPod Software Updater application" - This is the case with mine - can you suggest a way round this ? as i dont want to format my pod and loose all my songs !
I also downloaded copypod etc however the problem occurs in that again it cant pick up my ipod.
Any feeback will be much appreciated !
Hopefully someone can help
Cheers

You said you had to get a Firewire to USB adaptor...it sounds as if that could be the issue.
You might try a Firewire PCMCIA card and see if that helps any.

why don't you try a usb cable instead of the fw adaptor.
also please keep all posts regarding this to one thread - makes it easier for you to track the possible solutions, and avoids repetition. thanks
