how long does your ipod nano battery last under daily basic use?
like when you take it to school or something like that, mine goes from full battery to 80% in like 30minutes, i think there is something wrong with it..

Mine lasts 8 'real' (i.e. includes navigation, etc) hours with Lossless. Not sure about MP3/AAC yet.

Mine has been going thirteen hours (battery test - it is repeating a 4min song, no EQ, no touching it etc.) and has only just hit the red :-)

maxium 14 hours 35 minutes. that's not bad. no EQ, 50-70% volume, shuffle mode, no hold switch. I heard that 4GB gets more battery life than 2GB. there are two kind of memory which MLC(muiti level cell), SLC (single level cell). Samsung had to be rush for shipping over 40% of products to Apple before manufature ipod nano. they put SLC chip for some percent of 4GB ipod nano. as far as I know, 2GB uses MLC, some 4GB is SLC. actually SLC is slightly better for reading, writing for transferring speed, get more battery life. in the market, actual price for SLC is slightly expensive than MLC.

so I can say some of us could be lucky!

14 hours 14 mins under the ideal battery test.

As for real life, I use mine at the gym for an hour each day. After the week of about 5 hours of use, the meter is usually down less than 50%. And that with the backlight set to 2 secs and not using it that much. I'm not really that impressed with that. Maybe the rest of the meter will take longer? I usually sync and charge every weekend, so I'm not sure though.

well, the battery meter can be really inaccurate. on my mini, it lasts about 2 hours with the skinniest bar and 1 hour with no bar. so you cant really judge by the bar.

How can you NOT know how to do a batt test? o.O

Anyhoo, turn eq off, backlight off, fully charge your nano, put the volume at %50, and play it until it dies. Hmm, i think thats it ^_^'

But how do you know how long it lasts without sitting by the nano for over 10 hours...? <.<

You just have to watch it every 30 minutes after 10 hours and then you'll have a general idea. Also you could be playing music and then you would hear it when it shuts off

For those who are looking for the full article on the battery test, click here (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61475) to view.

Otherwise the basic steps are below:

Here's a simple test you can use to determine if the battery is working properly.
Download the latest iPod Software Updater for your model, and update your iPod's software.
Open iTunes.
Import the contents of an audio CD that contains average length songs (3 to 8 minutes) using the MP3 Encoder set at 160 kbps or AAC Encoder set at 128 kbps. See "iTunes 4: How to Choose Import Options" for further details.
Fully charge iPod by connecting it to the Apple iPod Power Adapter, or to your computer's FireWire or USB ports using the cable that came with iPod.
Open iTunes and update your iPod's music library with the songs you just imported.
If connected to the computer, eject iPod.
Disconnect the FireWire or USB cable from iPod.
For iPod shuffle
. Turn the iPod shuffle on by selecting either playlist mode or shuffle mode. Press play on the iPod shuffle.
For all other iPod models
. From iPod's main menu, click Settings, then click Repeat to turn on this feature. Click Backlight Timer, if necessary, to turn off that feature.
Select the album you imported in the step above, then select a song to play.
The album should play over and over until the battery is depleted.

I've done this test twice so far, and my battery has lasted 13+ hours.

oh man, there is something terribly wrong with my nano, I can only squeeze out about 4 hours before the battery dies.
I know why though, when I first got my nano I took it out and played with it until the battery completey died, without charging it first. that was a dumb decision.

Try this:

Totally discharge your iPod, until it doesn't come on anymore, then plug in to charge and leave it for 4 hours, even if it says charged after 2 hours, keep going until it's had 4.

Then, once you've done 4 hours, just use as normal, but totally discharge again, then charge for another 4 hours regardless, this time keep an eye on how long it is before the 'charged' icon is displayed, if it comes up after about 3 hours, its charging okay.

If it still shows 'charged', after about 2 - 2.5 hours, do another full discharge and 4 hour charge, again keep an eye on how long it takes to display the 'charged' sign.

All this does is sync your battery meter, and provide a more accurate reading both in use and when charging. It will also help your battery to 'get going' and hold more of a charge.

Hope this helps :)

I think mine doesnt last that long, it is reasonably new aswell, i have no EQ, around 75% volume and backlight on for 2 seconds. I usually use shuffle mode. I do turn it on and off, but total playing time isnt long at all, plus i play the ocassional game and view photos, so the backlight may be on for long periods and it would last around 3 to 5 hours maybe. But when i listened to abit of music for maybe and hours the meter like didnt go down. il do a test. How do you guys get the results like from 10-15 hours. Backlight off, EQ off, Shuffle Mode, hold off?

I haven't done a full test but I was at about 7.5 hours with volume at about 70% and Shuffle Songs on and my battery meter was at about 50%. I know the battery meter isn't accurate but I would think that I should get at least 13+ hours.
