I just updated to iTunes 5 and now, every time I dock my iPod, it goes through an entire re-updating of all songs on the iPod. This takes over an hour and has happened four times already. If I remove the iPod before the process finishes, there will indeed be only a few tracks on it. Please help!

welcome to the lounge :)

you may want to uninstall and re-install your iTunes, but make sure it's removed properly....

there is a known issue (but i thought it may have been for mac iTunes) where iTunes will remove and update any song played in iTunes since your last sync, but your case sounds a bit more extreme.

Thanks, that appears to have done the trick. But there are a couple of wierd things. When I reinstalled iTunes, it immediately had my music library and all of my preferences. So there must have been some original files that weren't deleted. Also, the Add/Remove Programs listing lists a couple of iPod Updater programs. When I try to remove them I get an error 'Internal Failure. Error Number: 0x80040707'. I also tried to delete the folders directly but get the same error.
