the ipod hardly fits in the dock, right? then, you have to remove the ipod from the case each time you have to charge/sync it... am i the only one who finds this annoying? i might as well buy the 10gb version because of this,,,

I actually posted something like this in another thread. I want to get an iSkin, when avaiable, for the new ipods and figured I'd have to take a dremel tool to the dock to add some room.

I wish I didn't care about the back of the ipod getting scratched. Then I would go caseless :(

I believe the dock is hallow. A dremel might put holes in your dock. And the iSkin would probably make the bottom just thick enough to make it not fit.

that really sucks... so soon we'll be seeing 3rd party docks..?

3rd party docks will no doubt help but I'm sure it can't be that hard for a company to design an adapter to accomodate cased iPods on a standard dock. A kind of riser thing should work.

Casual - thanks for the heads up.

I took my dock apart and it will pretty easy to make a new lid (the white part on top) that will accept a ipod with skin. I have an uncle thats going to help me carve one out of aluminum with his CNC machine. I doubt that I'll sell them but you never know. Plastic would be better but thats too expensive to set up the dyes (dies?).

Anyway, all you have to do is pop of the current lid and stick the new one on with the bigger area.

I'm not sure how you would do it for leather or plastic cases because they're just too big (take up too much space).

I should have this by the end of the week so I'll let you know how it turns out with pictures. The only down side is I don't have a iSkin to really test it out.

Yeah, i'm very curious about how it's going to look... if I like it, could I buy one off of you? Could you also engrave things in the aluminum?
