A college bookstore. Any place you can get an educational discount will be about 20% lower than anywhere else. I think Apple has essentially placed a minimum price on their product. The official vendors probably can't sell it below a certain price (except if Best Buy has a specific sale). I don't know this for sure, but it seems as though all the official iPod resellers have the same price.

I know I posted before, but figured I would post the educational discount prices if you happen to know a college student.

4 gig $220
2 gig $180

I'm in Toronto and when i bought my 2gb nano I got $25 off. They had a discount a few for a few days whereby if your purchase is over $250, you get $25 off. So in essence I got 10% off.

MacMall has them in stock for $239 for the 4Gb. It's a decent enough deal if you're not a student.

Shipping was a little slow. Evidently their "2nd Day" differs from any real idea of what 2-day shipping means, but whatever, I'll have it within five days of placing my order. Not too shabby.

the apple store should also offer student discounts, not just college bookstores. when i bought my mac mini at the apple store, they applied the discount. (didn't try for nano, cuz i've since graduated)

odds are, the Apple Store will be less than buying it on campus. here, the campus computer store charges $6 more than the Apple Store.

okay, the best you can get is through the apple store and a student discount of 10 percent, not 20 percent. some people are mistakenly saying you get 20 percent off, thats 40 dollars, i havent seen that anywhere.

you pay 229 for a 4gb (free ship) or 179 for a 2gb. But you pay tax, so its really about 10 dollars off, depending on what your tax rate is.

the best you can hope for is a 10 dollar off coupon applied to the educational dept at apple store.com. That was offered through september 11th, of this year, so whoever ordered on that week, could technically get $30 dollars off, but i dont know if they could on the ipod or if they got free shipping.

$20 dollars less on any model, thats it in terms of discounts. Retailers can give 0 discounts because they only make about $15 on an ipod nano sold (ie best buy, wal-mart, etc...)

Sorry about quoting the wrong percentages. Although our Bookstore doesn't have much markup on the nano, I ordered mine and my gf's over the phone in order to get the free engraving.

Huh... well if that's the case, I might as well get mine at Amazon. Its no sales tax, which saves me like 20 bucks here in California, plus they've got a free shipping option with it.

They've also got Shuffles for 5 bucks under retail, plus no sales tax and free shipping. Not a bad deal.

+1

That's what I paid for my black 4 gig

You also have to bring your school picture ID with you, so don't expect to get the discount by just telling them you're a student.
