Is there a way in itunes to search for album art via internet?

WindowsMediaPlayer does that.

or are there any other ipod supported programs taht do that?

I found a program that works like a Explorer Browser for Windows OS. It's from a company called Red Chair. The program is called Anapod. You can highlight the selected songs and it access's Amazon.com for the album art. It also has a feature that will let you specify the default jpeg files name within the Artist folder.
Example being "Folder.jpg" which is hidden within the Artist Album folder if you ripped your CD's with Windows Media Player.
Change your folder option to view all hidden and systems files and you will see the jpeg's that Windows Media downloaded already.
I'm not suggesting the Anapod software, I checked out the Tag&Rename 3.1.7 and looks to be possibly the better fit.
The Anapod software program is pretty plain jane from a user perspective. It's more browser based.

Hi folks my 60GBphoto has shown me no album art what so ever and I have ripped well over 20 albums so far....also, I HAVE clicked the "show album art" tab in the edit>ipod panel....

any help would be very very nice, thank you in advance.
