Took my alpine 9847 i got done at best buy, and bought an alpine ai-net auxiliary cable with rca to connect it.

today i did it myself, cause stores were ripping me off for install.

drilled a hole in the empty harness slot below my headunit, and i have the rca cable poking out.

sound quality is amazing, and i cannot discern between this and the actual cd.

just waiting for my 11dollar ebay belkin auto kit to come so that the sound volume isnt as tough to compromise for, and so i never have to worry about low battery.

good god this is gorgeous, and im glad i went with this over the alpine 420 ai-net thing which only lets you control ipod via headunit...

ooooo, and i can plug anything in the auxiliary. it would make a good nite using my dads portable dvd player as a poor mans pioneer avic d2

question - would it be ok to always have my backlight on when i get my car charger?

I don't see why not. The backlight uses very little electrical current; the car charger should have enough to spare.
