Well, I would like to say first this is all based off my own personal experience in a total of 5 cars and 4 different cassette Adapters.
Cassette Adapters:
1) RadioShack double side Cassette Adapter
2) Belkin Auto Adapter
3) Sony Cassette Adapter
4) Panasonic Cassette Adapter
Little about them
1) RadioShacks can be entered either way and the cord pushed through the top to come out either way for an auto-reverse deck ect.. It uses a Rubber Wheel for a tension.
2) Belkin Auto Adapter can only be inserted one way but has auto-reverse and also uses a Rubber Wheel for tension.
3) Sony Cassette Adapter same as Belkin's uses the auto-reverse and Rubber Wheel.
4) Panasonic's Adapters, can only be inserted one way and does not use auto-reverse. It uses an actual "tape" like a regular tape player for tension.
Results:
1) RadioShacks Adapter ultimatly failed, it wont allow for switching of sides automatically and totally ruins it working well in a car cassetter player
2) Belkins, it worked fairly well in all the vehicles it does make some noise to do bad parts ( they dont fit together well ). It sometimes gets kicked out of the player because the spring is too strong and the rubber wheel doesn't provide enough tension.
3) Sony's results were about the same as Belkin's minus the noise.
4) Panasonic's results were astounding, because of the use of tape instead of a rubber wheel for tension it doesn't end up getting kicked out and the spring system is alot better than the previous three.
Notes:
- All were driven on fairly bumpy roads to test conditions of the such
- All Cassette Players in the vehicles were cleaned using a q-tip and NON-ACETONE rubbing alchohol or finger nail polish remover. Make sure to clean both the head and the tension wheels ( black rubber things ).
- I took apart all the cassette adapters to look at their guts and most of them are pretty crappy Panasonic's being a bit better since it uses less gears with the tape tension function.
Soo moral of the guide, buy a cassette deck with TAPE tension rather than a RUBBER WHEEL, if you look at the bottom of it before you buy it it's really easy to tell!
