I bought the white Sony ex51lp fontopia headphones in June/July, and have been using it very heavily, almost everyday. I take alot of care with it, not pulling it out of my ears or anything.

Recently, I've noticed that the cord that goes around the back of the neck is starting to twist and sorta melt and is really disgusting. Grime was accumulating and it is getting really fragile.. a swift pull is all it needs to break the cord. I was worried but didn't do much about it.

And this morning, I realized that parts of the wire is showing through.

What can I do to resolve this problem? Is there a way to fix it? Is exposed wire dangerous? I've wrapped some cellophane tape around it for the moment.

The thing is.. I bought these earphones online from ebay, and while I do have the guarentee slip, I'm not sure if I can use it. I saw the black ones selling in a shop nearby and would hate to spend another $20+ after just 4 months.

Please help, thank you.

edit: I would like to ask if the black ex51 cord is made of the same material. I love the ex51s, but I don't want to get another pair if it's just gonna twist and fall apart in 4 months!

Thanks bobb! I live in Malaysia, and it is very hot and humid here so we all sweat alot. The fact that I take the bus and walk long distances everyday doesn't help either.

Im not exactly sure why, but Sony has issues with the cords on the EX51's and 71's in general. So this will more than likely happen again especially under those circumstances.
