Every one expected all the talking head journalist VIP's in the know

That the Mini would be Upgraded (NOT Replaced)

So heres the skinny, Creative's Zen Micro , and Creative's Zen Nano (Lawsuit already filed)

Anyways Son'y mp3 player looking good Alot of the iPod Mini's Clones had been looking Darn good 22 Hour batt life, FM Radio Voie Recorder etc. I almost bought a Zen Micro

So Apple with 1 move kills off all the copy cats and creates the #1 object of desire

What now, all the competition will develop and waste time on Nano clones smaller lookalike devices wasting time Theres the headfake

While Apple quietly develops the 5th Gen iPod 3" screen Bluetooth or Wifi notsure But going the Bigger is better Route while the competition goes after the NANO

Apple did a great job in pulling the rug from under the Mini-clones. It will be hard for any of them to secure as much flash memory as Apple has for the nano.

I don't think apple cares about the lawsuit. Creative already pulled a rug from under apple right? So Apple is doing the same back...

I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but Creative won't win.

Plus... Apple calls it the iPod nano. Creative calls it the Zen Nano. Different names with different capitolizations.

so a lawsuit has been filed for copying Creative Zen Nano's name? i don't blame em. if Creative named one of their players mini, Apple would've been all over that too.

Okay so nothing concrete. I would be surprised if there was a lawsuit over this. Just my opinion.

What about all the other 'nano's' out there, i work in nanophysics, i deal with nanotubes and anything with nano in it is considered 'sexy' science..... why should some poxy manufacturer get the licence to 'nano'!?

"iPod nano" (small "n") is the complete trademark here. For Creative it's Zen Nano (big "N"). Those differences are huge when it comes to trademark issues. I'm not a trademark lawyer, and I wouldn't put it past Creative from filing a suit just for spite, though.

There was a web company called "Tiger Direct" that sold misc computer software. They sued to get Apple to stop calling it's new OS Tiger, claiming it would cause confusion and steal business from them. In reality, their main concern is that they were no longer the first hit on Google. Judge threw out the lawsuit out saying it was stupid because most customers never even associated the word tiger with Tiger Direct at all, or any company for that matter, because it was such a common word.

Long story short - nano is also a word in common usage in the scientific and other fields. Any lawsuit against Apple for using nano would likely be thrown out due to the already set "tiger" precedent.

None of the iPod clones look good in my opinion. I wish Apple would fix the gapless playback and smart playlist updating issues though.
