Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Hi all,

I have an older Powerbook, so it only has a USB 1.1 connection (and Firewire). Unfortunately it seems that the iPod nano is only compatible with USB.... so I was wondering, how long would it take to fill up 4GB of songs over a USB 1.1 connection?

Also, even if it took a long time to fill up just once, I'm thinking that from that point on, i would only be updating a couple songs, or at most, an album at a time. Keeping this in mind, would it make the upload times bearable?

I really want an iPod nano, but it'll be disappointing if it's going to take forever to transfer songs....

Thanks for your help guys!

My gf connects her ipod with 1.1 (20Gb pod) and hasnt said it is unbearable.... trick is just to do it when you arent on a schedule.

Related point, apple site says you need a usb 2.0 enabled pc.... are we sure it will work with 1.1? I have a flash drive which works exclusively with 2.0....

I'm pretty sure it says backwards compatability with usb1.1 on the specs.

I have a USB 1.1 Mac (among others) and I don't see the speed being a problem. As you say, you fill it up just once.

Giving a small number of people a nice speed boost (USB1 -> Firewire) wouldn't have been worth increasing the cost of the nano for everyone. So I think Apple made the right call. Nice that you can still charge from Firewire though, especially if you already have that cable around.
