It can be used as a mass storage device like any other ipod.

You just need the wire for it on the nano. Their goal was to make it as thin, light, and little as possible. That's why they build-in the USB plug.

If all you want is a mass storage device that plays music, wait until the 2GB shuffle comes out in a couple months. Until then, do your own research, and quit complaining.

Where have you seen that the nano won't double as a storage device? I haven't read anything like that.

But, if previous iPods, including the shuffle, are any consideration, that the iPod can be used just like any other mass storage device. I think this is doubly true for the nano, since it will store contacts and calendar info just like other iPods. Mount it and add data to your hearts content.

Of course, I don't have one and can't be 100%, but I find it hard to believe that Apple would suddenly strip data storage from the nano, when every iPod on the planet supports it.

THANK you for correcting me (waiving fist full of cash towards Apple)

AMEN!

I am so glad thanks to you all who have relived my fears but an official link to where Apple says so would be Gravy

bboiweapon didn't read anywhere that there is no mass storage for nano. He wasn't sure so he just claimed the opposite and waited to see if anyone will refute him. Just ignore him until he gives sources to his claims.

VarLordahl, there is no built-in USB plug for the nano. (There is one for the shuffle, though.) http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html

Should I triple post, too?

Undeniable proof is on the download page: http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

Here it says with iPod nano software...
And it says in no certain words there: store and back up files and other data, using iPod as an external disk.

Done.
