Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 pro versus Westone UM2

Has anyone been able to compare these two carefully? I've listened to the
super.fi's. They're extremely smooth and musical, a sense of real music,
with a slight rolloff at the high end. I can't audition the UM2s. I understand
they're very good, more detailed than the super.fi's, but possibly dry
and unmusical. Can someone provide some info on this? Which would
you buy for the iPod?

UM2 is nothing like the super.fi pro, they are more mellow and lay back.

I tried UM2 with tri-flange. There is a big improvement. Especially the vocal is brought front, and bass is more clearer.

I believe this is because of the comply tip.

I also heard if you get custom mod sleeve for the UM2, it actually sounds really close to a tri-flange, and most people say it is a big improvement.

Anyway, if you are just listening for fun, I highly recommand you super.fi pro. It sounds incrediblely nice straight out of iPod.

I have tried Shure E2C, E4C, UE Super.fi 5 Pro, and Westone 2s. The Super.Fi and Westones were the best, but pretty different. The Westones were similar to the E4Cs with more bass and slightly better seperation. I still prefer the super.fis due to their richness and wider soundstage, but the Westones were quite excellent, certainly not mellow or laid back. I agree that the super.fis are a little rolled of on the utmost highs. I felt the westones were more forward than the super.fis and very detailed, kind of like solid state (Westone) vs tube (super.fi) electronics. I did get some sibilance on some tracks with the Westones. I am anxious to try the Triple.Fis.

I own the UM2's and have auditioned the super.fi 5 pros. The super.fi's are too bass heavy for my liking. Other than that I can't hear much difference between the two. I love my UM2's, they are so comfortable which I don't think can be said about the super.fi's.

I got a little side question, are the um2's dual driver? Because I know that the super fi 5 are. I've tried the super fi and I really like them.

Yes, the UM2 is dual driver, the UM1 is the single driver version.
